Sow respect, reap soil health!
From the 7th-9th May 2024, Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) the lead coordinating agency of the Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology in Eastern Africa
(KHEA) project and the Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative (EOA-I) Project in partnership with the KCOA Project International Partner- FiBL with funding from GIZ successfully participated in the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit, held in Nairobi, Kenya at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC). The summit deliberated and sought solutions to Africa’s widespread soil quality degradations on our farmlands – a challenge that impacts our agricultural productivity and food security in the long run.
The objective of the summit was to bring together relevant stakeholders to highlight the crucial role of fertilizer & soil health in stimulating sustainable pro-poor productivity growth in African agriculture & agree on an African Fertilizer & Soil Health Action Plan, & the Soils Initiative for Africa.
During the event, BvAT under the umbrella of the KCOA-KHEA and the EOA Initiative and partners FiBL, supported different KHEA Multipliers from PELUM Kenya, PELUM Uganda and Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM), who ran an exhibition booth where we showcased our various interventions in promoting soil health like using bio-fertilisers as opposed to harmful chemical fertilisers. The booth facilitated interaction with delegates, learning from our interventions who marvelled at the products and innovations we are promoting to enhance soil health in the continent.
Among the exhibitors, PELUM Uganda was well represented by the KHEA Multiplier Albert Kakande who showcased products such as; soil health inputs and soil fertilizers that are produced by MEMAGO PGS group in Uganda.
